Kuala Lumpur, April 18: The Maybank Malaysian Open 2014 gave aspiring juniors an opportunity to join in a junior clinic with local ace Danny Chia and former Malaysian Open champions Matteo Manassero and Arjun Atwal.
Chia, Manassero and Atwal demonstrated their skills in putting, chipping and bunker shots at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
More than 80 juniors participated in the junior clinic while twenty were selected for a five-hole round of golf at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club East Course.
The two coaching clinics, which took place on Wednesday, showcased Maybank’s deep involvement in junior development.
The Maybank Junior Golf–National Camp was introduced in 2006 and is a yearly event which gathers some of the nation’s best junior golfers.
Maybank is also heavily involved in the Maybank Junior Golf - Champions Academy, which is a programme, aimed at developing junior golf talents from grassroots level. Juniors who are selected for the comprehensive golf programme will be fully sponsored by Maybank Junior Golf.
Chia was delighted to conduct the junior clinic for children. “I love giving something back to the game and watching the kids brings me great joy. They are future golfers who will carry Malaysia’s flag when I’m old,” he joked.
Chia added, “I saw a couple of kids who had the potential to go far. With proper training and guidance, they could go far. It depends on their parents and their desire.”
