Kapur powers ahead in Qatar

Doha, Qatar, January 23: India’s Shiv Kapur fired a bogey-free four-under-par 68 to grab a share of 10th place at the halfway stage of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters on Thursday.
Kapur fired four birdies for a two-day total of six-under-par 138 at the Doha Golf Club to stay three shots back of the leading trio George Coetzee, Branden Grace and Bernd Wiesberger.
Asian Tour honorary member Ernie Els of South Africa signed for a 72 to stay a further shot back in tied-21st place with 10 other players which include 2013 Order of Merit champion Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand, who posted a 71.
Indian veteran Jeev Milkha Singh registered a second consecutive 70 to trail by five in tied-32nd place while three-time Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand sits in tied-53rd following a 73.
Korea’s Y.E. Yang, Australian Scott Hend and reigning Order of Merit winner David Lipsky of the United States failed to make the halfway cut.
