March 4: India’s Rashid Khan got his season off to a flying start not only by taking pole position on the Asian Tour Order of Merit but also made a huge leap up the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Khan’s career breakthrough at the SAIL-SBI Open presented by Incredible India last week was worth 14 points and saw him soar more than 300 places from his previous position of 612th position to 302 place on the world rankings.
Asian Development Tour winner Wisut Artjanawat of Thailand also had a week to savour when he moved 550 spots up to 643rd position on the OWGR with his victory at the season-opening PGM Sime Darby Harvard Championship last week.
A total of 14 Asian Tour members including the Tour’s honorary members are inside the top-200 on the OWGR.
Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, who will spearhead Team Asia’s charge against Europe as the playing captain at the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM in Malaysia later this month, is in 53rd place while reigning Merit champion and EurAsia Cup team member, Kiradech Aphibarnrat is in 71st position.
Other members ranked among the best in the world include South Africa’s Ernie Els (29), Korea’s K.J. Choi (89), India’s Anirban Lahiri (101), Shiv Kapur (141), Gaganjeet Bhullar (147), China’s Liang Wen-chong (123), Australia’s Scott Hend (132), Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng (135) and Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman (146).
