March 24: Korean star K.T. Kim continued his winning streak at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play by defeating Russell Knox of Scotland 3 & 1 on Thursday.
Kim, who is a multiple winner in Japan and Asia, never trailed in his match and sealed his second straight victory on the 17th hole at the Austin Country Club.
He leads group 11 on two points and will need only a draw in his match against Bill Haas of the United States to secure a spot in the round of 16. Kim defeated the reigning Masters Tournament winner Danny Willett in the first round.
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand dominated his match against Francesco Molinari of Italy, winning 5 & 3 but he has been eliminated in the group stages as Molinari withdrew due to a wrist injury and handing the victory to Alex Noren in their Friday match.
“I played good and solid and have no complaints at all. It was tough in the first round because Alex (Noren) is such a good player and he holed a lot of putts. I love playing in match-play formats,” said Thongchai, a three-time Asian Tour number one.
Jeunghun Wang of Korea lost in his match to Tyrrell Hatton on the 18th hole as the Englishman claimed a 2-up victory. Wang’s second defeat in the tournament has ruled him out of the last 16 matches.
Ends.
