Pattaya, Thailand July 27: As the King's Cup presented by PTT Group gets underway at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club on Thursday, we look at the likely contenders who will trumph this week.
Trevor Immelman (Rsa)
The Major winner maybe undergoing an indifferent form since winning the Masters Tournament in 2008. However, he can be expected to put up a winning performance if he plays true to form this week. He has been working hard in all aspects of his game and if it all comes together this week, the King's Cup will not be kept on home soil for the first time since 2010.
Thaworn Wiratchant (Tha)
Thaworn’s 18th Asian Tour victory at the King’s Cup in 2014 was also his last and he makes no bones about returning to the winner’s circle again. Apart from the inaugural year in 2009, the revered trophy has been kept on home soil since 2010. Thaworn has declared his intention to keep it that way and will fight tooth and nail to defend his title, considering the event has also been billed as 'The Pride of Thailand'.
Siddikur Rahman (Ban)
Siddikur will be looking forward to wrap up his final warm-up for the Olympic Games with a good showing this week. He became the first ever Bangladeshi to directly qualify for the Olympics Games on merit after cementing his status as one of the top 60 players for next month’s tournament in Rio de Janeiro. But before departing for Brazil, Siddikur, who will be the flagbearer for Bangladesh at the Games’ opening ceremony, is hoping for a slice of personal glory at the King’s Cup.
Miguel Tabuena (Phi)
Tabuena, who is currently fourth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, has been enjoying a rich vein of form since his maiden breakthrough on home soil last year. He already has two top-five finishes in Singapore and Malaysia this year and made his dream debut at the U.S. Open after topping the sectional qualifiers last month. Like Siddikur, he will also be making his Olympics debut and is hoping for a good showing to serve as a huge confidence booster.
