St Andrews, Scotland, July 14: Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat believes there’s no better opportunity to showcase the strength of Asian golf than at St Andrews where The Open will start on Thursday.
Although the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion is playing at the Home of Golf for the first time, he is confident the best players from the region’s premier Tour are ready for a good showing.
"It’s going to be a good week. For me, I want to show that Asian players can match up to anyone in the world. This is my first time playing in St Andrews and I’m really excited.
“Several of us have won before especially in Europe and it’s time to show we can compete against the best players in the world again,” said Kiradech.

“If the wind doesn’t blow as that hard, I’m very confident of doing well. But when it does, this is going to be a very different golf course.
“I’ve to keep my ball under the wind. And if I can do that, anything is possible. I’m hoping for a top-30 finish this week,” said Kiradech.
Kiradech will be part of a strong Asian Tour field that also features compatriot Thongchai Jaidee, a 13-time Asian Tour winner and current Order of Merit leader Anirban Lahiri of India.
Other Asian Tour members who will tee up at the world’s oldest Major include 2014 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion David Lipsky of the United States, American Jonathan Moore, Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg, Australia’s Marcus Fraser and Scott Hend as well as China’s Liang Wen-chong.
Ends.
