August 3: Thai star Kiradech Aphibarnrat shot a two-under-par 68 to move up to 10th position at the halfway stage of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron on Friday.
The current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, making his debut in the event, traded four birdies against two bogeys for a two-day total of three-under-par 137, which kept him ahead of many of the game’s leading names in the third World Golf Championships event of the year.
World number one Tiger Woods stormed up the leaderboard with a superb 61 to lead by a massive seven shots on 127 ahead title holder Keegan Bradley and Chris Wood, who lie on 134.
Newly accepted Asian Tour honorary member Ernie Els carded a 72 to trail in tied 43rd position.
At the Reno-Tahoe Open on the PGA Tour, former Asian Tour winner Charlie Wi of Korea moved into contention with 19 points in the modified stableford tournament. He carded five birdies and one eagle for 15 points to lie on 19 points, three behind leader Andres Romero.

Aug 2: Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand got off to an encouraging start when he shot an opening one-under-par 69 to take a share of 14th place at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday.
The Thai rising star, who qualified for the event courtesy of his victory at the Maybank Malaysian Open in March, posted four birdies against three bogeys to stay five shots back of American leader Webb Simpson at the Firestone Country Club.
Kiradech will tee off for his second round with American Harris English at 12.30pm local time.
Currently ranked 90th on the Official World Golf Rankings, Kiradech, who has three top-five finishes on the Asian Tour apart from his win in Malaysia this season, will head to Oak Hill for the PGA Championship, the year’s fourth and final Major next week.
Meanwhile Bae Sang-moon of Korea, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour, was tied for 54th place after he signed for an opening 73.
