October 23: Japan’s Masanori Kobayashi savoured the winning feeling again when he emerged victorious at the Japan Open on Sunday.
The 37-year-old, who was named Asian Tour Rookie of the Year in 2012, carded a final round four-under-par 67 for a three-shot win over compatriot Koumei Oda at the Ibaraki Golf Club.
Kobayashi won his maiden Asian Tour title in his rookie year at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open and with his winning total of 10-under-par 274, the Japanese ensured he would continue his winning ways on home soil yet again.
It was also a welcome relief for the Japanese as he had only managed to make the cut twice in seven starts prior to his win last weekend.
2011 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines signed off with a 68 to take a share of third place with Japan’s Shingo Katayama and Korea’s Kim Kyung-tae and Kim Hyung-sung.
Seven-time Asian Tour winner Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand meanwhile closed with a 67 to finish tied-12th.
Ends.
