Jakarta, April 16: EurAsia Cup heroes Anirban Lahiri and Siddikur Rahman will be out to display similar fighting spirit which saw them rally back to force a thrilling 10-10 draw with Europe when they step up to the tee at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters next week.
Lahiri and Siddikur, who hail from India and Bangladesh respectively, are riding on a wave of confidence following their memorable comeback against Europe at the EurAsia Cup in Malaysia last month.
With the growing strength of Asian golf on display at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club again, the subcontinent duo are hopeful of putting up another strong performance against a star-studded international field that includes France’s Victor Dubuisson, Major winner Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa and defending champion Bernd Wiesberger of Austria.
Lahiri, whose best result at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters came in 2012 when he finished fifth said, “I love playing at Royale Jakarta as we always get a warm welcome there. The event has grown over the years and it’s good to see it back.
Apart from the great course, we’ve always had good international players coming over to play in the event, so all these things help make the tournament a very good one. I’m looking forward to having another strong week in Jakarta.”
Meanwhile Siddikur will be hoping to better his best result of tied-third posted during the inaugural event in 2011.
With renewed confidence, the two-time Asian Tour winner is hopeful of making his return to the winner’s circle again.
“If I can continue to produce my regular game during the week, I will have a chance of winning. I feel confident now with where my game is and I simply need to continue to keep working at all the aspects of my game to become a better player. I want to have the opportunity to contend for tournaments every that I’m playing,” said Siddikur, who has not finished outside the top-five on the Asian Tour Order of Merit in the last two seasons.
“I’ve got good memories at Royal Jakarta. I came in third one year when Westwood won and I always enjoy playing at Royale Jakarta. It rewards accuracy which suits my style of play and I feel comfortable on the greens which is the key,” added the Bangladeshi.
The CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters has enjoyed strong support with many of leading names committed to ensuring the event continues to be successful.
They include main partners Pertamina, BMW Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, Freeport, Oakley and SvinGolf.
The CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters will also reach out to over 200 countries and 627 million households via the Asian Tour’s global television platform.
Ends.
