January 25: India’s Anirban Lahiri, the reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, carded an even-par 71 to finish in a share of 28th place in his first PGA TOUR event of the year at the Career Builders Challenge on Sunday.
The 28-year-old opened promisingly with a 64 to take a share of the opening honours.
However, rounds of 68, 71 and 71 meant he would finish 11 shots back of winner Jason Dufner with his four-day total of 14-under-par 274.
Lahiri earned his card in American through the Web.Com Finals last season, which also saw him winning twice on the Asian Tour, breaking into the world’s top-50 and making his debut in the Presidents Cup.
Fellow Merit winner, Seungyul Noh of Korea signed for a 70 to finish tied for 17.
At the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Korea’s Byeonghun An, who played in the recent EurAsia Cup, closed with a 71  to finish tied-fifth, five shots back of champion Rickie Fowler.
India's Shiv Kapur posted a 70 to take a share of 11th place while China’s Wu Ashun signed off with a 70 for a share of 16th place.
Thailand’s Prom Meesawat also carded a final round 70 to finish tied-35th while compatriots Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat had a day to forget after their 76 and 78 saw them ending the week in tied-46th and 72nd place respectively.
Ends.
