August 14: Anirban Lahiri of India and Y.E. Yang of Korea opened their campaigns with solid two-under-par 70s at the PGA Championship on Thursday.
Lahiri, the current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, was cruising on four-under but disappointingly dropped a double bogey on the last hole to end the day in tied 15th place at Whistling Straits.
Yang, who created history by becoming the first Asian to win a Major at the 2009 PGA Championship, traded five birdies against one bogey and one double bogey to trail the opening round leader Dustin Johnson by four shots.
Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat chipped in for birdie on the fourth hole en-route to a 72 to sit in tied 39th place while Asian Tour honorary member Vijay Singh was a further shot back.
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand and Cameron Smith of Australia returned on identical 74s.
