Taipei, October 3: Read to find out what players have to say after the second round of at the US$650,000 Mercuries Taiwan Masters on Friday.
ADILSON DA SILVA (BRA) – SECOND ROUND 66 (-6), TOTAL 141 (-3)
I putted well today. I didn’t start off solid as I was short of the greens for the first three holes but I managed to chip and putt. I missed a birdie chance on the sixth and got a bonus on the seventh where I holed a 25-footer for eagle. I birdied the eighth hole which was another bonus because that hole was playing hard today.
I felt very comfortable today. My putting was so good. The greens were running better this morning. The wind is getting in and out on the course and it’s hard to gauge the direction sometimes. The course is playing ok. It’s just the winds. You just have to get the right direction out there.
I was really staying positive on the front nine. I lost too many shots there yesterday so I just told myself to stay positive. My caddie helped me quite a bit with the lines. We were reading the lines together and we got it right most of the time. You have to keep the ball in play from the first hole. I think putting is the key to play well here and you got to be aggressive playing on these greens.
I haven’t played much this season. I spent some time at home for the past few months because my father was not well and he had passed away about one month ago. I’m starting to play again now and I will try to play as much as I can from now till the end of the season.
STEVE LEWTON (ENG) – SECOND ROUND 72 (EVEN PAR), TOTAL 142 (-2)
I made a few mistakes on the last few holes but I thought I played pretty steady in the wind. It’s definitely more difficult today. I was just trying to make as many pars as possible because it’s really hard to score on this course. I’m happy to be in a good position heading into the weekend rounds. I will keep to the same mindset, same game plan and cut out on the silly mistakes. We will see how it goes.
PAUL PETERSON (USA) – SECOND ROUND 71 (-1), TOTAL 143 (-1)
I stayed very patient out there, up and down when I needed to. I got through my own process very well, keeping everything organized and not let anything get to me. This is a golf course where you won’t be rewarded every time you hit great golf shots. A golf course like that where the winner won with one-under-par last year, it just show that you have to stay patient out here. I stayed positive out there. I will continue to stay patient in the next two rounds and if I can improve by one shot a day, I should be in a good chance for a win on Sunday. This season has been pretty good for me. I’m happy with the way I’m playing. I feel like my game is there and I can play good any week. I just hope to stay in there and make sure I don’t skip a step. Obviously getting the rookie of the year would be great but I guess it’s hard to chase down Cameron Smith now. I would love to finish in top-30 at the end of the season.
ANTONIO LASCUNA (PHI) – SECOND ROUND 69 (-3), TOTAL 144 (EVEN PAR)
I’m really happy to shoot a 69 today, given the tough conditions out there. I stuck to my game plan and I’m glad it worked out. You can’t afford to miss any shots on this course. It’s very tricky but I’m looking forward to the weekend rounds. My tee shots were very good but my short game was not as good. When I get to two-under-par, I was still thinking how I did that! It’s strange that I actually played well today. It’s a very challenging course. You need to stay focused as you don’t know what is going to happen out there. You need to keep thinking on this course.
ANDREW DODT (AUS) – SECOND ROUND 70 (-2), TOTAL 144 (EVEN PAR)
I played very well today. I was good off the tee and had some good on-shots. It’s very tricky with the wind out there because it’s swirling all the time. You have to check where it is coming from. It’s a bit of a guessing game and you also need some luck. You have to putt well to keep the momentum going. I will keep doing what I am doing going into the weekend rounds. The season’s been pretty ok for me. I am looking to win a tournament before the end of the year.
