February 8: Mohammad Munir will fly the Pakistan flag among 30 other different nationalities when he tees off in the new 2013 Asian Tour season at the Zaykabar Myanmar Open presented by Alpine later this month.
The 38-year-old, who is rated as Pakistan’s number two golfer, enjoyed a successful Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage campaign when he signed off in tied 31st place to earn playing rights on the region’s established Tour.
His first test will come at the US$300,000 Zaykabar Myanmar Open presented by Alpine which is staged at the Royal Mingalardon Golf and Country Club from February 21 to 24.
“I paid US$2,000 entry fee for appearing in the Asian qualifying school,” said Munir to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
“Good showing at the Mena Tour in the UAE and in Saudi Arabia raised my confidence level to join the Asian Tour,” he added.
Apart from winning the Ras-ul-Khaimeh Classic on the Mena Tour, Munir also represented his country at the 2009 World Cup in China when he qualified through the World Cup Asian Qualifier with his teammate Muhammad Shabbir.
“It was a good feeling to represent Pakistan in the World Cup but now I just want to concentrate on doing my best and see what happens,” said Munir.
