June 17: In this latest edition of #RoadToRio, we caught up with Philippines’ Angelo Que, who tells us why representing the Philippines at the Olympics is a top honour and what it means to be playing alongside compatriot Miguel Tabuena, who is almost half his age.
It must be one of the biggest highlights in your career, representing Philippines at the Olympics?
Representing my country is always an honour and a privilege as an athlete especially on a big stage like the Olympics. I've represented my country for the Asian games and South East Asia (SEA) Games but the Olympics will definitely be the pinnacle of it.
Have you set any targets for yourself? What would a good performance do for golf in the Philippines?Angelo Que
I just want to give my very best as a good performance will definitely show that we, Filipinos can also compete against the rest of the world at the highest level.
Thoughts on playing alongside Miguel in Rio?
I've played with Miguel in team events at home and I think it would be great for Philippine golf to see two golfers from different generations playing alongside each other at the Olympics.
Any plans on taking time off to visit Rio or watch other sports while you are in Brazil?
Of course I would! After all, it's not very often you go and visit places on the other side of the planet.
If you can compete in another Olympic sport, which one would that be?
Maybe bowling although I know it’s not an Olympic sport yet. Hopefully like golf, it will be included in the Olympics one day. I've played a lot of bowling in the past and with proper training, I think I can excel in that sport.
Ends.
