Crans Montana, Switzerland, July 24: Read what leading contenders have to say after their second round of the Omega European Masters on Friday.
Y.E. Yang (Kor), Second Round 63 (-12 Total)
Q. You must be very pleased after rounds of 65 and 63?
A. Yes. The conditions were ideal and my putting was good as well. So I’m very happy.
Q. Your last visit in 2007 ended with you missing the cut. What’s the difference now?
A. I was really inexperienced back then and my caddie help a lot this week. Managed to judge the ball distance better as the ball flies 10% further due to the altitude.
Q. You like it here?
A. It’s beautiful, with the mountains and scenery
Seukhyun Baek (Kor), Second Round 63 (-12 Total)
Q. Pleased to have made the cut after your early season form where you’ve missed several cuts?
A. I’m really happy as I’ve never done well here before. I like this golf course and it’s good I’m beginning to play well here. I feel like my form is slowly returning.
Q. You were in contention going into the final day last year but shot a 74. What can you draw from that experience?
A. I tend to put lots of pressure on myself especially when I’m in contention. But I’ve learnt to relax and have always told myself to enjoy myself on the golf course. I think that showed today.
Q. Thoughts of playing alongside Y.E. Yang tomorrow?
A. I’m really happy that I can get the opportunity to play with Yang as he’s one of the legends in the game. He’s the only Asian to have won a Major and I’m very excited to play with him as this is my first time I’m paired with him.
David Lipsky, Second Round 66 (-8 Total)
Q. Assessment of your round today
A. It was pretty rocky at the start but I managed to hole some putts and steady the ship and made some nice birdies coming in. Overall, I’m happy.
Q. Was it frustrating especially for you in the back-nine until you got three birdies in a row?
A. Definitely. I didn’t hit that many good wedge shots coming in. I holed some nice putts going to one-under at the turn. You always think you can go really low over here and it’s frustrating when you don’t.
Q. Did you have a strategy of where you want to be going into the weekend?
A. I’m just taking each round as it comes. The course is playing a little different from last year so I’m just sticking to my game plan go as low as I can in every round.
Q. You’re still nicely place to defend that title.
A. Yes. Danny played amazing today and I played pretty solid just to keep myself in contention. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.
Rikard Karlberg, Second Round 67 (-8 Total)
Q. Slightly frustrating finish but overall must be pleased with your round?
A. Yes. I’m pleased. I played solid yesterday but I was a little shaky in the beginning today. Managed to get two birdies on 14 and 15 and I started to cool down a bit. Unfortunately, I bogeyed at the end. But it was nice out there. I felt like it was a walk in the park.
Q. Any difference between the conditions between the two days?
A. There was not much until we reached the back-nine where the breeze came up. The winds made the difference as it was really nice for us yesterday.
Q. Tied-10th at the Scottish Open and a chance of another good finish here too?
A. Yes, I’m feeling confident and hopefully I can build on that confidence for the rest of the week here.
Anirban Lahiri, Second Round 67 (-6 Total)
Q. Pleased with your pair of 67 over two days?
A. I’ve been playing well and I feel like I’m playing a lot better than I’ve scored. It’s always hard reading these greens as I missed a few six to eight footers but it’s still a good sign for me. I’m beginning to play more solid and I’m still in position. Hopefully a big weekend and I can contend.
Q. Nice weather change from The Open?
A. It’s fantastic as it’s a nice change. You don’t expect Crans Montana to be as nice as it is this year. The body’s still feeling a little tired as it was a really long week last week. But I’m feeling fine. I’ve been lucky with the draw. I played late yesterday and managed to sleep in a little with the delay. I’m feeling good to go for the weekend.
