Hoylake, England, July 20: England’s Chris Rodgers wrapped up his Open debut at Royal Liverpool with a two-over-par 74 on Sunday. He also enjoyed the honour of hitting the most fairways all week with his 78.57% average. He talks about his experience this week in this blog.

I’m happy with the way I played today but not happy with the way I scored. I had great fun playing with Martin Kaymer as he’s obviously a fantastic champion.
It’s not often you get to play with the current Players Champion and US Open champion. We had a good time, he talks quite a bit. I know his caddie Craig and it was a relaxed atmosphere. He had a tough day and was struggling a bit. That’s golf.
It obviously is a dream week ... as a Brit to play in the British Open. To come through qualifying at Sunningdale and to hold your head up and play in all four rounds pretty well was good. To play with Martin is very encouraging and a real pleasure.
I’ve played on the Asian Tour for over 10 years and I’ve got the experience to handle the big events. I don’t get nervous. You have to back yourself, you practice an awful lot. It’s been a fantastic experience and given me a lot of food for thought to improve myself.
I’ll be celebrating this evening with some friends, taking my dad and a few club members out for dinner and then settling down to watch the rest of the golf. I’ll be playing in a couple of pro-ams which would be a good calm down. I’ll do my best to give my playing partners a good time, certainly some good stories to tell them about. It’s been brilliant.
Not many people get to experience walking up the 18th hole. I missed the putt on the last would have been a nice way to finish. It was a fantastic experience.
