Ryutaro Nagano (Jpn) – First Round 65 (-6)
I’ve been fortunate in terms of weather conditions these past two weeks, and I was able to capitalize today by finding my rhythm before the wind started to pick up.
I need to hit top form and still lack confidence here but my golf has been solid overall and six-under-par is a great score on this course.
Before the wind got stronger, I got a good score so I was really lucky because of that.
Ryutaro Nagano Rd 1 I had a lot of opportunities to get closer to the pin, some shots were good and some shots could have been better. The course is narrow so I didn’t swing it as hard as I would normally do.
Jason Knutzon (Usa) – First Round 66 (-5)
We were fortunate to tee off around 7am. We played quite a few holes without the wind. It is starting to blow now so five-under is a good score.
I played good on the front nine but didn’t hole putts. The greens are rolling really nice so you need to take advantage of that.
Japan courses in general, you got to hit it straight. It is usually very tree-lined and the greens are fast. I’ve always liked coming here. Sometimes I got good results and sometimes not so much. It has been a mixed bag of results here but I like coming to Japan.
Hopefully the body holds up. I’ve been fighting a few injuries. It is day one so it is hard to get too excited.
I got here on Tuesday (from United States). I’ve been waking up really early so I hope to get some sleep tonight. It will get better. I was going to bed about 9pm and when the room started to shake, I was thinking if I should run downstairs! It is amazing how these buildings can withstand earthquakes.
I’ve been fighting a hip injury. I don’t know if it is turning 40 or what but I’ve had it since the start of the year. I’ve been on the physio table a lot. The injury popped up again on my back nine but I was fortunate to hole some putts.
Chapchai Nirat (Tha) – First Round 67 (-4)
I’m happy with my round because my putting improved. I played in Japan last week and missed a lot of short putts. It is better today so I’m happy. Have I been playing well? I think I can do better. I’m hungry for a win in Japan. I’ve not won here before so it will be nice to win.
Shiv Kapur (Ind) – First Round 68 (-3)

I played pretty solid. I made only one bogey, one bad swing. I was in between clubs and the wind was gusting. Other than that, I played solid, hit a lot of fairways and greens.
It got breeze towards the round so I think we had the best of the conditions. You still have to take advantage of the good conditions.
I like this golf course, it suits my eye. I grew up on tree-lined golf courses so I feel comfortable when I stand on the tee. I’ve had a month off and had some rest in the system. But it is always nice to get it out of the way.
I got married! Getting married and the honeymoon was an important thing. I only did some practice last week to prepare for here. I had quite a big break so the body and mind are quite fresh.
I got married on April 3 to Maya in Bali, Indonesia. It has been a good year so far. Getting married is really a blessing. I feel like I’m in a good place in my personal life. My golf game just needs to get a notch better and I’ll be very, very happy.
Panuphol Pittayarat (Tha) – First Round 68 (-3)
It was a good round. This is a tough golf course. It was a bit chilly this morning. My ball striking today was really good. My putter started to roll in the middle of the round.
My game has been on and off. I’ve been making the weekend but I haven’t been playing as well as I would like to. My game is getting better so I hope to make a miracle.
My chipping and putting have improved. My ball striking has been good for the year.
