Mithun Perera (Slk) – First Round 66 (-6)
I had a good round because my driver worked and I holed some good putts. I’ll try and keep to this rhythm in the next three rounds. I always have good confidence when I’m here because of my accuracy.
I holed a nice 15-foot birdie on the last. I made seven birdies including two gimmie birdies and that gave me a lot of confidence.
I played the regulation game. That’s the key on this course. I tried to play my ball on the fairway and green and that helped me to a good score. You need to keep the ball in play to stay out of trouble here.

I got off to a good start with three straight birdies and that gave me some momentum. I made some good putts and could have holed a few more. It was nice to finish with a birdie on the last hole (10-foot). All the birdies were good (laughs).
I made a really long birdie on the second hole from 35-foot. That’s probably the best. Everything worked well. It was a good solid round. If I can play the same way then it is good.
My daughter is eight months old. Her name is Aynaz and it means the glory of the moon. You have to ask why she chose the name.

I’m disappointed because I missed a five-foot birdie on the last hole. You cannot attack on this golf course. I like this golf course but before I always did badly here. I’ve missed many cuts here. I tried to find a way to play here and I took my driver out this week. I use a two-iron for my tee shots. I have no complaints with my score today.
Siddikur Rahman (Ban) – First Round 68 (-4)
It wasn’t a bad start! I enjoyed my day. My shots were really good and I’m happy to play my best. I had a few good putts which were quite long. Overall I’m happy with my efforts today. The fairways are soft so it is playing slightly longer.
It is nice to see Mithun leading. I think all the accurate players will do well here.
Thitiphun Chuayprakong (Tha) – First Round 68 (-4)
It was a great round for me. It rained when I was playing but I think it was nice to play in the cold conditions. It helped my round. I felt comfortable when it was raining. Somehow I felt very relaxed.
I chipped in on hole number 10 from 10 yards. That was good. I’ve been working a lot on my putting and I’ve been hitting the ball quite good. More importantly, I’ve improved on my putting and that’s helped my game.
I’ve played here many times and I always hit the ball very well. In the past I struggled with my putting but things have changed for the better now.

The conditions weren’t the easiest today. It started raining soon after I began my round. I endured a tough first-nine. I was unfortunate on the 13th where my approach landed on the edge but rolled back into the bunker. I started turning it around from the 18th where a brilliant chip left me a tap-in birdie.
I hit my irons really close on the second-nine (front-nine) and was within four feet of the pin on five occasions. In fact I narrowly missed a hole-in-one on the seventh where it was just one roll away from the cup.
I won the NCR Cup back in 2012 at the DGC while still an amateur, so I know my way around this course and enjoy a certain comfort level here. I used the driver on only two tees today and was terrific with the 3-wood hitting centre fairway on most occasions. I feel my tee shots are my strength at the moment.
I had a good start to the year on the PGTI with a win in the season-opener and another top-10 soon after. But it’s not been as good thereafter. Nonetheless, I’m 11th in the money list and looking to close the year with a flourish. A good finish this week would really lift my confidence.
I started working in a garment factory at the age of 16 for five years. I moved to caddying at Waters Edge Golf Club in Colombo. I caddied there for four years and by the age of 27 I started to play golf seriously. I turned professional two years ago. I’ve won a tournament at Delhi Golf Club as an amateur in 2012.
Niall Turner (Irl) – First Round 69 (-3)
The conditions were far from ideal. It rained for most of our round and it was quite gusty out there. I’m delighted with a three-under to start. The rain wasn’t that bad and it was still playable. The greens were nice and soft which makes it easier.

I’ve been playing very well since August. Overall there was just a lot of solid golf today.
Chikka S (Ind) – First Round 69 (-3)
I started quite well and the conditions were tough. It was raining and the wind was blowing from all directions. Surprisingly I struggled on my back nine (started from 10). I’m quite happy to finish three-under.
At Delhi you don’t need to hit the ball as hard as how you would normally do on different courses so when it was raining, I stayed calm and took it easy. I guess that’s why I played well in the tough conditions.
My plan this week is to try and secure my Asian Tour card. Obviously coming here from winning an event helps with my confidence.
