Sentosa, Singapore, August 22: Paul Peterson of the United States is the latest Asian Tour member to win on the European Tour after claiming a dramatic victory at the D+D REAL Czech Masters on Sunday.
Peterson traded seven birdies against two bogeys for a final round five-under-par 67 and 15-under-par 273 total to defeat defending champion Thomas Pieters of Belgium by a single shot at the Albatross Golf Resort.
With his win, Peterson becomes the eighth Asian Tour member to win on the European Tour this season, joining Marcus Fraser, Scott Hend, S.S.P. Chawrasia, Soomin Lee, Jeunghun Wang, Thongchai Jaidee and Chan Shih-chang.
“It’s a dream come true, honestly. To be where I was on the Race to Dubai and knowing that I had a six week stretch, to sow things up and get my card for next year, it’s an unbelievable feeling,” said Peterson, a southpaw golfer.
“I’m going to remember that putt on 18 for the rest of my life. We had the perfect club in on 16 and it was so funny because I didn’t even feel my swing out there. Once it came to the top, all of a sudden I was at the finish of my swing. I looked up and I was flagging everything, it was cool.
“This is definitely life-changing. I’ve got a place to play for a while and hopefully I can keep on a roll on the European Tour, be one of the guys at the top of the Race to Dubai and play those big events,” added Peterson.
Peterson joined the Asian Tour in 2014 after finishing in sixth place at the Qualifying School. In three seasons in Asia, the American finished a career high of fifth place on the Order of Merit last year.
