Stars to watch in 2017: Chan Shih-chang

Sentosa, Singapore, January 10:

It was more than a breakthrough year for Chan in 2016.

Just two months after claiming his maiden Asian Tour victory at the King’s Cup presented by PTT group in Thailand in July, Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang reigned again at the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup in Japan.

From recording his fifth title on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) in mid-2015 to becoming a Qualifying School graduate earlier in 2016 and then a multiple winner on the Asian Tour, Chan was undeniably the most improved player last season.
Chan, who turned professional in 2008, also made his debut appearance at the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf in Melbourne last November after being picked by compatriot C.T. Pan as his partner in the team event.

Apart from the two victories, the 30-year-old Chan also notched a top-three finish at the Venetian Macao Open in October.

He ended his season in a career-high fourth place on the 2016 Asian Tour Order of Merit, sweeping a season’s haul of US$542,820.

Chan also shone brightly on his local circuit in 2016. He capped two victories on home soil and was also crowned the Player of the year on his domestic circuit.
