Prized CIMB Classic spot at stake at SapuraKencana National Qualifier

Kuala Lumpur, July 29: Nearly 100 Malaysian golfers are set to thrill local fans at the SapuraKencana National Qualifier 2015 next week as they challenge for one coveted spot to play against the world‘s top golfers at the CIMB Classic, which is Southeast Asia’s only PGA TOUR’s official FedExCup tournament.
The highly anticipated annual Qualifier will showcase an array of home grown talents and rising stars from August 3 to 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad, a leading world integrated oil and gas services and solutions provider, is the title sponsor of the Qualifier. The company is also a sponsor and lead partner in the CIMB Classic 2015, an event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and PGA TOUR.

Top local golfer, Danny Chia, a two-time winner of the Qualifier will be making his third appearance at the Qualifier, alongside a host of other leading local players.
“Winning the SapuraKencana National Qualifier gave me the golden opportunity to participate in the CIMB Classic. Malaysian golfers must seize the opportunity to win the coveted spot at the upcoming Qualifier to elevate their standings beyond local shores,” he said.
Sanctioned by the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM), the SapuraKencana National Qualifier will be offer a prize purse of RM150,000 with the winner taking home RM22,000, including a spot at the CIMB Classic 2015.

Offering full FedExCup points, the CIMB Classic will feature 78 players - 60 from the PGA TOUR, 10 from the Asian Tour and eight sponsor’s exemptions. It will ,will carry a total purse of US$7 million.
Out of the eight sponsor’s exemptions, CIMB Classic accords two spots for Malaysians. The second spot will be accorded to the highest ranked Malaysian golfer on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) as at September 30. If the winner of the SapuraKencana National Qualifier is also the leading Malaysian in the OWGR, the second spot for the CIMB Classic will automatically go to the next best-ranked Malaysian on the OWGR.
