Prom produces splashing 68 in KL

Kuala Lumpur, October 30: Thai star Prom Meesawat hopes his fast start at the US$7 million CIMB Classic on Thursday will help him emulate best friend Kiradech Aphibarnrat’s heroics at last year’s tournament.
The burly Prom produced a solid four-under-par 68 for a share of fifth place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club to lie three shots behind leader Rikard Karlberg of Sweden.
Last year, Kiradech contended for the title before finishing third and Prom, who recently secured his second Asian Tour victory in Taipei, is hopeful of keeping Thailand’s flag flying in the CIMB Classic.
“Of course, four under, I’m always very happy with an opening round that is under par,” said the man nicknamed the Big Dolphin due to his physique and the fact that he hails from a coastal town.
“I'm hitting it good from the tee, just missed a couple fairways. That’s why my game was a bit easier,” said Prom, who is currently fourth on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit where he has not missed a single cut this season.
He arrived in Malaysia in top form following  his second Asian Tour title which ended an eight-year title drought. He also finished tied second in Macau last weekend.
“I've been playing good golf for the couple of months, and since I had my second win last month, that's built a lot of confidence for me to play,” said Prom.
“I’ve got lot of confidence to play in a big field with world-class players. I just want to keep doing what I have been doing and stick to the same plan which is to hit fairways and greens.
The CIMB Classic, which is also sanctioned by the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia, is part of the season-long PGA TOUR FedExCup competition. The event was inaugurated in 2010 and is the only official PGA TOUR event to be held in Southeast Asia.
