Q&A: Six things about Jeunghun Wang

Sentosa, Singapore, June 7: In this latest segment, Korea’s rising star Jeunghun Wang, who is currently second on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit, talks about his best golfing moment to date, his favourite holiday destination and the inspiration in his life.
2016 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open: Day 4What’s your best golfing moment to date?
Winning back to back in Morocco (King Hassan Trophee) and AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in May was really incredible. I still cannot believe it happened. I’ve never thought about winning in Morocco as I was playing under a sponsor’s invitation and it just came automatically. I still can’t remember how I birdied the 18th hole three times that Sunday. In Mauritius, when Siddikur (Rahman) dropped those shots, I was confident I could win and I did it.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
I don’t quite know …. I don’t really think of having holidays. I guess since I’ve been travelling so much recently, I always think about just going back to my home in Bundang, which is some 50-minute drive from Seoul. That’s probably my favourite holiday destination.
Who is your inspiration in life?
Of course my dad (Youngcho) is my number one inspiration. He’s a golf teacher and I learned golf because I just followed him to the golf course. He’s my only golf teacher and I don’t intend to learn from other golf teachers. I’ve already won twice with his help. My dad’s friends have also helped me by giving me a lot of advice on mental strength. They’ve told me what books to read and it’s helped.

If you could buy anything in this world, what would it be?
I would want to buy a private jet to travel around the world to play golf. It’ll be nice to have first class treatment all the time.
Why did you start playing golf?
My dad played golf every day when I was a kid and I would follow him. This was when I was about five or six years old. Then, I started hitting the golf ball when I was 10 or 11. I really found a liking for it. I like the feeling when you hit a good shot well and the ball goes a long way. There’s nothing like it with the other sports.
What playlist do you have going in your phone and car right now?
I listen to everything type of music. I love ballad songs and I also like club music. I’lll download just about anything into my phone.
