January 12: Filipino Angelo Que enjoyed his best season of his career by finishing sixth on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit last season. Find out what were his happiest memories of the year and how he treated himself in this Q&A with asiantour.com
Assess your 2014 season?
I was very happy with 2014 as it was the best year of my career so far. I finished second in Hong Kong and eighth at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia. The whole year, I played solid. I putted okay but in Hong Kong and Malaysia, all the putts went in. I just kept my head up high.
What was the main highlight of last year?
The main highlight was the second shot with my nine iron in regulation play for the birdie on the 18th hole to get into the play off at the Hong Kong Open. It was a once-in-a-lifetime shot.
Any regrets at all?
The second hole of the Solaire Open where I hit a 12 to fall out of the lead in the final round.
What are your goals for the new season?
Get in shape! I also hope to plan my season better. I’m not getting any younger so I need to ensure that I’m always at my best form and travel well.
Any shot you like to re-hit from 2014?
The drive on the second hole at the Solaire Open. I would probably hit a three iron rather than the driver.
How would you spend your off season?
I’ll just spend quality time with my family. We are away so long during the season and when I’m home, I’m not really home as I’m resting. I want to have a good rest before the new season begins. The physios have also told me to take a good break as we’ve played so much at the end of the year.
Any gifts for yourself following your best year?
I’ve bought two cars, a family car and a Camry. I like to keep it simple.
In your opinion, who was the star of 2014 on the Asian Tour?
I would say it was Anirban Lahiri as he played so consistently throughout the year. I know David Lipsky won the Order of Merit but for me, Anirban really showed us how it’s supposed to be done. He played his hardest and he was always up there on every leaderboard.
Who should we watch out for in 2015?
The usual guys, I think Prom Meesawat will be there, Anirban will be there, Thaworn Wiratchant and Scott Hend will also do well. I wouldn’t put myself in there but we’ll see !
