Manila, November 22: Resorts World Manila believes its support of professional golf at the highest level in Asia will continue to showcase the Philippines as a leading tourism destination and also support the nation’s push to have its golfers in the Olympic Games next year.
Jeff Evora, Senior Director for Gaming Marketing of Resorts World Manila, hailed the success of the Resorts World Manila Masters, which concluded a thrilling third edition at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club on Sunday. Angelo Que and Miguel Tabuena emerged as the top Filipinos in tied 18th position. Thai Natipong Srithong won the tournament.
“Through our partnership with the Asian Tour and Manila Southwoods, we have a wonderful opportunity to showcase this beautiful country to the world while also extending our fullest support towards professional golf as we prepare to celebrate golf’s return into the Olympic program next year in Rio de Janeiro,” said Evora.
“It has always been our commitment to champion Filipino golf and we hope our golfers will earn Official World Golf Ranking points on offer to enhance their hopes of playing in the Olympics.
“I think this has been one of the best things that we have done. We’re increasing our exposure overseas with the staging of this tournament. It helps the business of course but we want to position ourselves in a way when we get visitors from abroad, the first thing that comes to their mind is Resorts World Manila.”
This year’s edition saw Resorts World Manila Masters offering hole in one prizes, courtesy of Red Tail Aviation where it offered a VIP Service valued at US$250,000 to the first golfer who shot an ace on the 13th hole.
And as it turned out, Chinese Taipei’s Hung Chien-yao, who finished third in the tournament, achieved the magnificent feat with a two iron in the final round today. Hung was the last player to take a shot at the unique prize in the afternoon as he was in the last group of the day.
A Mitsubishi ASX car valued at US$32,000 was also on offer at the par three 191-yards 17th hole but no one achieved the feat.
“I think the more we do it (tournament), the better known we become. It’s good to see the mixture of players is getting better every time. Although it will be more challenging for the players themselves, the quality of the field is actually improving which is good for the tournament,” added Evora.
Resorts World Manila Masters partners include Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club and supported by Marriott, Scientific Games, Aristocrat, IGT Asia Pte Ldt, Fuji Xerox, Konami, Levelwear, Mitsubishi Motors, RGD LTD, Net Pacific, Inc, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, Avis and Glenmorangie.
