July 2: Asian Tour member Chris Rodgers of England secured a place at The Open Championship later this month after the conclusion of the Final Qualifying in Scotland on Monday.
Rodgers, a winner on the Asian Tour, was among 288 players fighting for 12 spots in the year’s third Major tournament which will be played at Royal Liverpool from July 17 to 20.
Sunningdale New proved to be the most testing of the four qualifying venues but Rodgers overcame the tough playing conditions by shooting rounds of 67 and 72 for a one-over-par 139 total to claim the third and final ticket which was on offer at his venue.
“It’s a dream come true. I can really look forward to Hoylake and see what happens,” said the 38-year-old Rodgers.
The Englishman will join reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand, Thongchai Jaidee, Masanori Kobayashi of Japan, Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines, Asian Tour honorary member Y.E. Yang of Korea, Wu Ashun of China and Yoshinobu Tsukada of Japan at The Open.
Ends.
