Title holder Scott Hend of Australia and Korean star K.T. Kim, a multiple winner in Japan, have also confirmed their participation in the prestigious US$750,000 full-field Asian Tour tournament at the award-winning Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai from July 3-6.
The powerful quartet will join US PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner of the United States who was earlier announced as the first marquee name for the Chiangmai Golf Classic, which was successfully launched in the northern city of Chiangmai last season.
Chiangmai’s Governor Wichien Puthiwinyoo said: “We are honoured to host the Chiangmai Golf Classic presented by PTT on the Asian Tour for the second time. Chiangmai is a beautiful province with friendly people and I am sure the golfers will be happy to return for the tournament and take the opportunity to enjoy the culture, local food and destinations that we have to offer.
“We are delighted that four more world-class stars have confirmed their participation in the Chiangmai Golf Classic. With the inclusion of Charl Schwartzel, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Scott Hend and K.T. Kim, along with Jason Dufner, golf fans in Thailand and television viewers from around the world will be treated to a great tournament.”

Udomsak Ngowsiri, Managing Director, Alpine Golf Course Group, added: “Our club is privileged to be a part of the Chiangmai Golf Classic once again. Through the success of last year’s inaugural event, Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai won the Best Golf Resort award from the Asian Tour which shows that our championship course is well accepted internationally.
Schwartzel, holder of 12 international victories including the 2011 Masters Tournament, is looking forward to a return to the Land of Smiles as he was victorious in the 2012 Thailand Golf Championship on the Asian Tour.“I would like to thank the Chiangmai Province, Asian Tour and IMG who have selected Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai to be the host venue. A big ‘Thank You’ to all sponsors of the tournament which will extensively promote Chiangmai and Thailand to the world.”
The world number 18 said: “I am looking forward to my first appearance at the Chiangmai Golf Classic presented by PTT. I have enjoyed some success in Thailand in the past and it would be fantastic if I can produce my best golf once again to secure my second victory in the country which I truly enjoy visiting.
“I have heard a lot of wonderful comments about the Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai and also the city of Chiangmai and I can’t wait to get there. This year, I have played some good golf but it would be great if I can land my first victory of 2014 in Chiangmai.”
The exciting talents of Kiradech, who became the third Thai player to win the prestigious Asian Tour Order of Merit title last year, will be on full display once more at the Chiangmai Golf Classic.

Last year, the long-hitting Thai finished tied fifth at the Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai, which was named the Best Golf Resort at the Asian Tour’s 2013 Awards Night recently.
“I am looking forward to playing in Chiangmai again. I played pretty well in the inaugural tournament and I hope to put on another good showing in front of my fans. The Alpine course suits my eye and style of play, so hopefully, I will have another chance to win in July,” said Kiradech, who finished fourth in the recent CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters.
“After a slow start to my 2014 campaign, I feel that my game is coming back to its best and hopefully I can secure my first Asian Tour victory in Thailand as my other victories have been in India and Malaysia previously.”
The powerful Hend is looking forward to a return to the Alpine Golf Resort Chiangmai, which served up one of three victories for him last season en route to finishing second on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit behind Kiradech.

“It will be fun to defend my title against what is looking to be another strong field in July with the likes of Charl Schwartzel, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Jason Dufner and K.T. Kim in the field,” said the Aussie.
“I enjoyed winning the Chiangmai Golf Classic last year after shooting a final round of 64 to win by three shots and those are good memories to bring with me when I go back to Chiangmai to defend my title.”
The 27-year-old Kim, who started his career on the Asian Tour with one victory before going on to win five times in Japan, hopes to return to winning ways after bursting onto the professional scene several years ago. He rose to 25th in the world rankings in 2011 and also qualified to play in the Presidents Cup for the International Team.
“I am looking forward to returning onto the Asian Tour where I first started my career. It will be exciting to participate in the Chiangmai Golf Classic alongside several Major champions and the finest players from the Asian Tour,” said Kim.
The Chiangmai Golf Classic will continue to promote Chiangmai as a leading golfing and tourist destination through the four days of live broadcasts on the Asian Tour’s global television platform, which reaches over 180 countries and 625 million homes.
