May 31: EurAsia Cup star Siddikur Rahman will be heading to Walton Heath Golf Club in England later this week to take a shot at qualifying for the U.S. Open.
The Bangladeshi, who is a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, will play in the 36-hole qualifier on May 26 where seven tickets to the U.S. Open are at stake.
His hopes have been boosted by a runner-up finish at the recent ICTSI Philippine Open.
The 29-year-old said he was looking forward to fulfilling his dream of playing in the year’s second Major.
“I am leaving for England on Friday, three days before the qualification, to have some practice there. The qualification will be held on May 26 over two rounds of 18 holes each. Seven competitors will qualify out of a total of 80 from that zone,” Siddikur told the Daily Star.
Siddikur is currently 13th on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit. Apart from his tied second finish in Manila, he was also runner-up in the SAIL-SBI Open in India, the season’s opening event in February.
The slightly built Bangladeshi was part of the heroic Asian Team which drew 10-10 with Europe in the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM in Malaysia where he contributed two points including a convincing 4&3 singles victory over Stephen Gallacher.
