June 20: Asian Tour honorary member Jeev Milkha Singh of India birdied the last hole to get off to a strong start at the Irish Open after shooting a three-under-par 68 on Thursday.
The two-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner turned in 36 before breathing life to his campaign with four birdies against one bogey on his way home to trail the leader Mikko Ilonen of Finland by four shots.
Singh, whose last victory in Europe was at the 2012 Scottish Open, will have a chance to secure a spot at 2014 The Open Championship next month as the top three players this week earn a spot in the year’s third Major.
Ends.
