Smith qualifies for U.S. Open

June 9: Australian Cameron Smith, last season's Asian Tour Rookie of the Year, qualified for the U.S. Open through sectional qualifying on Monday.
Smith shot rounds of 69 and 67 for an eight-under-par 136 total in Ohio to finish tied seventh in his qualifying. He will take his place in the year's second Major at Chambers Bay in Washington next week.
Asian Tour members Paul Peterson of the U.S. and Filipino youngster Miguel Tabuena came close in Rockville and California respectively.
Peterson shot 71 and 72 to earn second alternate status while Tabuena carded rounds of 69 and 71 to miss out on a play-off by two strokes.
