Lin Wen-tang (Tpe) - Second Round 73 (+1), Total 142 (-2)
The wind was blowing everywhere today. I checked the direction and soon afterwards, it will change. I had many birdies and bogeys. I know this course quite well because Wack Wack is an old course. If you miss the green, you will be in trouble and might get a bogey or more. I think I scored okay.
I had two three putts but had one chip-in on the 15th hole from 25 feet. Even though I had two three putts, I still feel very comfortable with the new putter. Everybody knows this green is very difficult.
I didn’t play in many Asian Tour events last year because my body wasn’t in the best condition. I went to the gym quite often and my body was feeling sore. There were times when I struggled to swing. I’m getting older and I thought going to the gym would help me get more power. I was wrong! After that, I decided to stop it completed. I’m feeling much better now.
This course is not long but the first shot is very important because the rough is very long. The greens are also very tricky so you need to putt well here. I think if the wind continues to blow, I have a good chance to win. Everybody knows that I hit a low ball flight.
Matt Jager (Aus) – Second round 72 (Even Par), Total 142 (-2)
Today was really difficult. The wind might have changed on us for five or six times. That was the big thing because you always need to check the wind. It is a difficult golf course so with the conditions like that, it plays a little bit harder.
It has been really pleasing. I haven’t had the best start to the year. This is a difficult golf course and being in contention going into the weekend shows my game is in good shape.
I’m not really surprise to be in contention because people were talking about how difficult this golf course is. You don’t have to do much wrong to get the bogeys. There was always a chance he (Dodge Kemmer) would fall back.
You have to hit it straight off the tees and I’m driving the ball quite well at the moment. The goal for me at the start of the week was to try and hit everything in the middle of the green and not be too greedy.
I didn’t have much confidence mentally. It has been a little bit of a long road to get here but I’m feeling good and my head is in a better place. I’m just trying to stay more relax. I just stress myself out too much. All my mates I’m travelling with keep telling me that I’m putting well and hitting it good. They told me to get out there to play like it is a practice round. That’s the attitude I’m taking into the tournaments now.
The reason why I found it tricky when I turned professional was because I was going through some swing changes. I wasn’t playing with the same level of confidence as I was as an amateur. That’s probably reflected in my scores. I’ve turned the corner now and ready to play the weekend.
Thammanoon Sriroj (Tha) – Second round 69 (-3), Total 142 (-2)
It is very tough out there but I managed to hold on. I’m happy with how I played after yesterday’s round. It is always easier to play when there’s not so much wind here. This is a very difficult golf course and you need to play it safe to avoid trouble.
Rahil Gangjee (Ind) – Second round 69 (-3), Total 144 (Even par)
I’m extremely happy. This golf course can get to you so you need to relax, stay calm and call upon all your experience so that you can prevail. I’m not really surprised to be in contention but I’m glad. As I said, you have to hit the golf ball in the correct places and hit the drivers on the fairways. Overall, you have to play really well here!
This is only my second time playing at Wack Wack. All these years I’ve heard that it is treacherous and it has tough greens. Last year was the only year I came and I thought it wasn’t that bad. But the course is definitely a challenge and I’m glad to be back.
My hitting has been good for the last couple of years. I have no complains at all. The putting is much better now. I’ve been working on my rhythm and stroke. In fact, Ashok Kumar was helping me last week and he has done a good job. My putter has been going a little bit out so I’ve been working on getting it a little bit squarer on the plane.
Elmer Salvador(Phi) – Second round 69 (-3), Total 143 (-1)
I’m still adjusting to my new downswing tempo which is still very off from optimum performance. It was a good thing my putting and pitching were okay. The goal for the third round is to make par. It will be a bonus if I can make a birdie.
