LIN Wen-tang (TPE) – Final Round 73(+1), Total 285(-3)
Yes, it has been a long wait! It has been three years since I last won. I think I’m suited to play on this kind of golf courses. Golf courses with windy conditions are of an advantage to me. The last two holes were really exciting! I can’t believe it till now. I mentioned yesterday that if god loves me, he will let me win. I’m really glad I did it.
There were a few ups and downs at the beginning because the playing conditions on course change a lot. My puttings were kind of conservative today. I don’t feel really good about it. I made a mistake on the 17th where I should have taken a three-wood instead of a driver. I used the driver and hit the ball to the left and into the trees. At that moment, I feel like I’m at the 2008 Hong Kong Open once again. It was an amazing putt! I think lady luck is really on my side today to let me win this tournament. I told myself to stay focus and not think about anything else. All I think of was how to hit the ball into the hole. Thank goodness I had the luck with me!
At the 18th hole, I met my friend, Charles, and he told me to keep up the good work. I thought I should really perform well for one last time. I’m glad I did it again. Being Forty years old is not an issue at all! I guess I shouldn’t be considered old at 40 years of age because I can still win. I’m really very happy.
I knew Thammanoon will have a difficult time saving his ball so I thought to myself if I bogeyed on the 18th, I can at least still get into a playoff. I’m really very lucky to have made that putt.
My putting hasn’t been good today. I’ve been hitting the ball too lightly the whole of today. I knew this was the putt to winning so I told myself to really concentrate and just hit the ball in. To me, unless you are the champion, second and third place are the same to me. I’m really lucky to have made it.
I remembered back in 2008 Philippine Open, I was in contention but lost the tournament because of the bad shots that I made on the 17th. It is really challenging for me to come back here and play this time. I’m glad I had my revenge on this course!
I think Wack Wack has to be one of the top three most difficult golf courses on the Asian Tour. I believe it’s not just for me, but for all the players who have played here. Overall, I think the course has become more beautiful than the past. Back in 2008, I thought the greens were too hard but this time, I had very different opinions of the course. I hope this tournament can continue for many years ahead. It is a good training ground for the young and upcoming players. If they can play well here, they should be able to play well on any other courses.
I've won at least 22 events (including on the local circuits) but 15 times came from windy conditions. Everybody knows I like playing in windy conditions because that what I'm used to in Taiwan. My brother (Wen-hong) told me to keep hitting low shots and I will have a chance to win. I'm glad i listened to him.
Something which people don't know about me is that I have very strong motivation and I never give up.
Miguel TABUENA (PHI) – Final Round 72(even par), Total 289(+1)
I played well this week especially with the expectations I had. I’m very proud of myself. It was a good tournament for me and definitely a very good experience. I shot 72 today and managed to hang in there. I made a move on the front nine and then the 8th hole came where I made a triple bogey but I then made a birdie on the 9th which was a good comeback. I finished even par today which was pretty good.
Gunn CHAROENKUL (THA) – Final Round 73(+1), Total 289(+1)
Overall, everything was pretty good. My entire game was good. I think I put too much pressure on myself because last year was a really good year for me. Everything was going well as I had expected. I think I have to try and enjoy my game more this year. I played well this week and I’m happy with myself. I was teeing off really well which was the key to play well on this difficult course. My putting was good as well. The course is not easy. You can’t afford to miss the fairways. The greens were tough. I am playing quite well now especially my long game. I had bad tee shots for the previous four to five games. I think the first tee shot is really important for the game this week. It makes my game a lot easier. This is my second time in Philippines. I came here to play junior golf when I was 12 but I don’t really remember anything from my last trip here. It’s good to be back!
