"Stars to Watch: Thanyakon, Mithun, Wang, Peterson"

January 28: Fearless and hungry for success, AsianTour.com predicts another stellar year for Thanyakon Khrongpha of Thailand, Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka, Wang Jeung-hun of Korea and Paul Peterson of the United States.
Thanyakon Khrongpha (Tha)
Thanyakon might have been an unknown name to some when he pushed Padraig Harrington of Ireland to the limits at the BANK BRI Indonesia Open. But his battling spirit earned him praised and sympathy from some after losing on the last hole when he hit his second shot into the water. Last year was a learning curve for Thanyakon and with some polishing in his game, we expect him to be one of the high achievers in 2015.
What can we expect:
Thanyakon will rely on his solid game to push him across the finishing line. He needs to maintain his composure in the final round and once he can overcome that, Thanyakon will be a player to be reckoned with. Some people are already whispering in golf clubs that the Thai looks like a younger version of Thongchai Jaidee…

Projected Order of Merit ranking: Top-10
Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka
Mithun Perera (Slk)
Most players will be dejected after losing in a play-off but not Mithun. After missing out on his first win at the Panasonic Open India last year, the Sri Lankan was still his bubbly self and respectfully praised S.S.P. Chowrasia for his hard earned victory. Missed numerous cuts in 2014 by one shot and rued an unlucky break.
What can we expect:
He averages 267 yards off the tees, making him one of the shortest hitters on the Asian Tour. But what he lacks in distance, he makes up with his sharp-shooting game where he found 80% of fairways last year. Expect him to be contending regularly especially on tight courses like the Delhi Golf Club.
Current World Ranking: 468th
Projected World Ranking at end of 2015: Top-200
Projected Order of Merit ranking: Top-20
Wang Jeung-hun (Kor)
Wang Jeung-hun of Korea Wang Jeung-hun of Korea
He is quiet in nature but packs a powerful golf game as he proved in 2014. Wang didn’t miss a single cut last year and finished second at the Dubai Open after making two closing bogeys. He contended in all the Asian Tour events in the Philippines, a country which he lived in for six years as a junior.
What can we expect:
Wang will continue to knock on the door in 2015 and it will not be a surprise if he claims his first win in the Philippines. He has the game to go the distance but needs to hold his nerve on the last few holes. He is certainly one to look out for.
Current World Ranking: 274th
Projected World Ranking at end of 2015: Top-200
Projected Order of Merit ranking: Top-20
Paul Peterson (Usa)
Paul is one of the most consistent rookies after Cameron Smith in 2014. The American finished tied fourth at the Solaire Open in the Philippines in his first ever Asian Tour event and went on to secure four other fourth place results! Finished 22nd on the Order of Merit and is one of the few international players to adapt so quickly on the Asian Tour.
Paul Peterson of the USA Paul Peterson of the USA
What can we expect:
He will only get better after his impressive performance in 2014. Travelling in Asia will be easier for Paul in his second season and his next big goal will be to win on the Asian Tour. We expect a huge season for the American.
