#Taiwan_Masters Rd 1 - What They Said

Panuphol Pittayarat (Tha) – First Round 68 (-4)

This is the first time this year I’m leading in a tournament. I strike the ball well today. I hit the perfect drive down the fairway and got 160 yards to the pin. I used a nine iron and hit the ball to about three feet. Not much work to do from there but a good eagle.

It has been an off and on year. I have been making the cuts but didn’t get the job done during the weekend. I’ve been striking it well since Japan but I haven’t been holing enough birdie putts to get up there. I just hope the ball gets in my way this week.

Scott Barr (Aus) – First Round 68 (-4),

I got off to a great start. I birdied five holes on the front nine. It was a perfect day but it was a good start and I just hung on.

I was really fortunate because I holed some 10 and 15 footers for birdie. Hopefully I can tidy up my driver a little bit.

I had a poor start in the year but things are starting to pick up midway through the season. I took some time off from the game and got away from the game. I had a chance to win in Chinese Taipei (in July) but it didn’t happen.

I’m enjoying playing golf at the moment. I started teaching when I took a break from golf. I like picking on other people’s swing instead of mine (laughs). I’ve been working on the same philosophy for some time so hopefully I can pick it up a little bit better this week.

Chawalit Plaphol (Tha) – First Round 69 (-3)

It was okay. I was lucky on the sixth hole when I holed my bunker shot for birdie. That was good. Anything under par here is a good score. I hit a lot of fairways and greens. This year, I’ve been struggling a bit with a wrist injury but now it is better so I hope I can do well this week.

Mardan Mamat (Sin) – First Round 69 (-3)

Anything under-par on this golf course is good. I build up some confidence with a good start. I was disappointed to bogey 17 and 18 (started on the 10th hole).

I eagled hole seven from 27 metres and that was good. I knew I had to make a few birdies before reaching the ninth hole which is a very difficult hole. That eagle gave me some confidence and I made par on my last hole.

My season has not been great. I need to play some good golf towards the end of the season to keep my Tour card. I want to get some confidence back and trust myself. I’ve been playing this game for so long but I suddenly lost confidence in my game.

This is a good week to regain my confidence.

Phachara Khongwatmai (Tha) – First Round 70 (-2)

I’m happy with my two-under score. I was three-under after four holes and back to even par at the turn. I told myself no problem and I get some birdies on the back nine. Last year it was very windy on this course but today we have good weather. Anything in the red numbers this week will give you a chance to win.
