Tales from Q-School: David Lipsky

As the Asian Tour Qualifying School gets set to unearth future talents of the game in January again next year, we turn the pages of some of the most successful stories ever told of the Tour’s past Qualifying School graduates.
To kick-off this series, we look at the rise of American David Lipsky.
The early signs of Lipsky’s precarious talents showed when he topped the class at the 2012 Qualifying School.
The American, whose mother is Korean, would then go on to win his first Asian Tour title in what was only his third event at the Handa Faldo Cambodia Classic.
The political science graduate from Northwestern University in Chicago ended his rookie year in 11th place on the Order of Merit.
One of Lipsky’s proudest moments came at the majestic Crans Montana, Switzerland in September this year where he joined the likes of Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie and Nick Price in becoming an Omega European Masters champion.
Lipsky’s victory was also a historic one as he became the first Asian Tour player and only the second American after Craig Stadler to taste victory in the only tournament on European soil to be jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Reflecting on his meteoric rise to the upper echelons of the game, Lipsky paid tributes to the region’s premier Tour for his ascent.
“It has done everything for me. I started out on the Asian Tour and I won there. It really developed me as a player and I’m still looking forward to playing out in Asia.”
Ends.
