March 25: Japan’s Hideto Tanihara secured a spot in the round of 16 after beating compatriot Yuta Ikeda 3&1 in the third round of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on Friday.
Tanihara defeated former world number one Jordan Spieth in the first round and halved his match with Ryan Moore on Thursday. He will play against Paul Casey of England when the knockout rounds begin at the Austin Country Club on Saturday.
Korean star K.T. Kim, a multiple winner in Japan and Asia, failed to make it into the round of 16 after losing to Bill Haas in the sudden death playoff where the American beat him with a birdie against a par on the sixth hole.
The Korean needed only a draw in his match against Haas to advance into the round of 16 but lost 4&2 to Haas in the third round. He defeated reigning Masters Tournament winner Danny Willett in the opening match and Russel Knox of Scotland in the second match.
