#ThailandClassic Rd 3: What they said

Hua Hin, Thailand, February 14: Read what leading contenders have to say following their third round at the True Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain.
Scott Hend (Aus), Third Round 66 (Total -15)
“It was a good round and puts me in a good position. I played very solidly and putted quite well. I only made one mistake so it was pretty good. It was a nice long drive on 13 – it hit a wet patch from the rain and picked up a bit of speed down the hill. I hit a nice little five iron in there and got a good bounce on the fringe of the green. I’m not sure how close it was to going in but it was nice to walk up there and see it very close. I did wonder if it had gone in when I heard the cheers – I couldn’t see the hole from where I was.
“This is where you want to be, in the last group on a Sunday. I’ll be playing with Thongchai again and Miguel so it’ll be a good little test tomorrow. I’m very lucky and privileged to be playing golf for a living and being in contention on Sundays is what we’re all trying to do.”
Miguel Angel Jimenez (Esp),Third round 69 (total -14)
Q: Your thoughts on that third round?
A: I only had three birdies but it was a bogey-free round. The last hole was close to being a birdie, but just missed. I’m playing well and hitting it well. I missed a few putts I’m creating lots of chances.
Q: It sounds a bit frustrating?
A: No. This is a beautiful place and it’s beautiful weather – it’s a good scenario. It’s not frustrating. It could have been five or six under today but that’s the game and you have to take it.
Q: Is it nice playing in the last group with one of the Thai stars?
A: Of course. Kiradech is a nice lad. I played with him the first two rounds and again today, and tomorrow I’ll have another Thai guy with Thongchai. It’s very nice. It’s very good for the tournament.
Thongchai Jaidee (Tha) Third Round Five-under-par 67 (Total -14)
Q: Talk us through your round today?
I played really well again. Hit 17 greens today but my putting was still a problem. I gained confidence from the finishing hole. My shots were pretty good today. I only missed one green on the 12th hole. My game plan was pretty good. I was pretty close on the 9th, 14th, and 16th holes but I couldn’t sink the putts.
Q: How will you prepare for tomorrow?
I need to practice my putting. Putting will be the key to win this tournament.
Q: Did the rain effect your game today?
Not at all. It only rain for one hole. I am used to playing in the rain.
Q: You’re only one shot behind, how do you feel?
I feel good. I will just stick with my game. My style is not so aggressive. I usually shoot around -5 to -6. You won’t see me shooting -8 or -9 too often. But I am feeling confident with my wedge shots this week. I think I will have a chance to go low if I can putt better.
Q: Who will get the most advantage on this course?
This course favors the long hitters. Look at Scott Hend, he was going on in two shots on all of the par 5s with irons. On 17th hole, he could reach the green from the tee. He has a big advantage over most of the players. I will need to use my accuracy and putting game to fight that.
Q: Were the pin positions difficult today?
Yes, it was more difficult than the first two days. I think tomorrow will be even more difficult.
