Scott Hend – Second round 64 (-8), Total 132 (-
Your thoughts on the 64?
Yeah, it’s good. It’s good to get into position once again for the weekend, we’ll see happens which is quite nice.
Nice to see you up here again as you finished second last year?
I like this course, I like the area, I like coming to Thailand as it’s a friendly place. Always have a pretty good time. After a lacklustre effort last week in the WGC in Miami, we’ll see what comes now.
I played atrociously, drove the ball poorly, putted poorly. Did everything poorly and my scores showed. Plus 21 or 22 for four rounds. It’s a tough golf course as there’s a lot of hazards and so on but I was very disappointed with my performance last week. I just want to do something for myself (this week).
Did you change anything for this week?
I just changed driver again this week. I have a few driver worries and I’ve been messing about a little bit. I used a different putter every day around Doral as I wasn’t putting very well either. This is golf, we all go through it. We all change clubs. We put putters in buckets of water hoping they behave the next day! It doesn’t always work out that way.
How you feeling with the jetlag?
We’re always perpetually jetlagged. It’s a long trip from there, I got in at 1am Wednesday morning and played the pro-am. It was a bit warm but this is something golfers have to deal with. If you want to play with the best golfers, you have to deal with jetlag. I can’t complain as I’ve got the best job in the world.
Does the adrenaline and excitement in the system helps?
I try not to get excited and I try not to get adrenaline. I just try to keep smooth and plain sail. We’ll see what happens.
Go back to the first hole on the 10th yesterday where you hit three balls off the tee?
You have to warm up don’t you? I hit driver down there and hit the provision and it was all good. Hit provisional there again today and made two pars. There’s out of bounds down there and the love grass on the left, if it goes in there you can’t find it. Hitting provisional just saves time. I would have made bogey with the second ball.
Pelle Edberg (Swe) – Second round 67 (-5), Total 132 (-12)
Are you a happy man?
Yeah, very happy. I’m more satisfied with the result today than yesterday. I was playing extremely good yesterday but today I played well but not as good.
Once the birdies came, the rolled in?
Yeah, it was a strong finish. Birdied 15, 16 and 17. Three putted the last unfortunately for a par on the last. Overall it was a good day.
Are you conscious of leaderboards?
I saw a few guys showing up and I knew there were a few birdies out there. You know when you have 16 through 18 to play, you’ll have some birdie chances.
Was the course different?
The fairways were a bit softer at the beginning but throughout the day, they became a bit firm.
You’ve had a few chances now. Are you more used to being up there?
I think we have to talk about this on Sunday. But yeah, of course, it feels nice to see your name up there. It gets easier as well but on the other hand, home soil, I’m not as nervous tomorrow as I was on Thursday.
I’ll get more nervous when you know people are watching you. You can play the British Open and not have anyone knowing you.
Are there many friends in the galleries?
All the Swedes here you basically know and a few of them closer. I’m having a great time here.

Panuphol Pittayarat (Tha) – second round 65 (-7), Total 133 (-11)
Result was good, 65. I didn’t hit my tee shots or irons well today but my short game was good. I struck it better yesterday but today, I took my chances and I’m pleased with it.
Not hitting it well but scoring well and getting the job done.
How were the greens?
It was a fraction faster. They are rolling really good. All you need is to get a good line and a good speed for it to go into the hole.
Headlines last year for the hole in one?
I birdied 14 again yesterday. It’s one of my favourite holes now. I love coming up here. Hua Hin is like my second home. I practice a lot here, I like the atmosphere and I like the golf course and people.
To be honest, I never play well here, never score well here. This week, I’m just taking a chill pill and giving it a good. The result has come up pretty good.
I’m still going to chill, having a golf clinic in the afternoon, chill at the beach and have some lunch and dinner.

Verdict on today?
“I played really well today – I hit a lot of good shots into 12 feet or less but didn’t make that many of the putts. I started birdie-birdie and then three putted and then struggled to get the ball in the hole a little bit. But tat the end of the day, you have to be quite happy when you shoot four under. It was one of those days where I could have gone very low. I have never been renowned as a great putter but hopefully I can do a little better on the greens over the weekend. I am happy with the score today.”
Do you draw on experience in this position?
“In a way. Any time I am in this position it is the putting that lets me down. My ball striking is good – over the last two days my ball striking has been more like it used to be. Hopefully if I can get the putter to work correctly over the weekend then I can shoot some low numbers.”
You live in Hua Hin and know this golf course so well – how much of an advantage is that?
“It’s definitely an advantage because I know exactly where the ball should be placed on these greens. If you put it in the wrong position here you are going to have a lot of tricky putts. The last couple of days I have put the ball in great position but just couldn’t hole the putts.”
What are you goals at this stage in your career?
“Retirement!!! No, when you play as well as I did today you think to yourself, ‘I have still got it’. I have a new driver which has been great and that has made a big difference this week. The other club that is working well is the Ping Anser putter that the owner of Black Mountain (Stig Notlöv) gave me last week to try has been great as well. I was telling Stig last week that my putting was terrible and he gave me the putter and told me to use it, so I did!”

David Lipsky – Second Round 68 (-4) Total – 135 (-9)
How did that compare to day one?
“I didn’t hit the ball as well today as I did yesterday, but I am pleased with the score. There was a big difference between the morning and afternoon draw. The course is trickier in the afternoon. I am really happy.”
Fun to play with Shaun?
“Yes. We are feeding off of each other – we are both on nine under so it has been a fun couple of days.”
Are you looking at leaderboards?
“Not really, I will look on Sunday! It is good to see my name up there and to put myself in contention for the weekend. This is why I play golf – to give myself a chance to win. I have been building momentum since the start of the year so hopefully I can keep this form going over the next couple of days.”
Shaun Norris – Second Round 68 (-4) Total – 135 (-9)
Thoughts on day two?
“I am very pleased. I played well again today and made a lot of chances and managed to take a few of them. I struggled on the greens but overall I am happy with the way I am playing and with my position going into the weekend.”
Good to play with David Lipsky this morning?
“I have to say that I am such a deep sleeper that I actually got a fright when the alarm went off so early this morning! I came out this morning and the weather was perfect so it was nice. There wasn’t much breeze this morning on the front nine and it picked up on the back nine.”
Have things changed since the victory a couple of weeks ago?
“For sure. I am a lot more comfortable being out here knowing that I have secured my card for the rest of the season. It also gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season and makes me want to try and win at least another one event.”
Chiragh Kumar (Ind), Second round 68 (-4), Total 136 (-8)
Thoughts?
Obviously, it’s been good. I’ve played some good golf the last two days. I ‘ve putted well, hit the ball well and planned my game pretty well. Everything is good so far.
Any difference to yesterday?
Somehow I always seem to catch the wind. So it doesn’t really matter if I’m playing morning or afternoon. But it was a lot hotter and humid too than yesterday. It was slightly less windy than yesterday which helped.
A lot of chances out there?
I’ve been hitting it good and my putting is in shape. Made some good putts today.
It’s happened that I’ve played well and haven’t been able to put it all together, not been able to finish them off. I’m just looking forward to putting four rounds together.
Is that frustrating?
It’s part of the game, it’s okay. Just keep grinding it out.
How do you find Black Mountain?
Fantastic, I love this course. I’ve never played well here in the past, so it’s a bonus that I’m playing well. But beautiful golf course and great facilities. Always a privilege to come out here to play.
