April 8: Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand will be in the company of 1992 The Masters Tournament winner Fred Couples and Branden Grace when the year’s first Major tournament starts on Thursday.
The three-time Asian Tour number one will make his fourth appearance at Augusta National Golf Club and he will be in high spirits after finishing tied 37th last year.
After taking a month’s break to prepare for The Masters, Thongchai is prepared to put on a worthy performance as he seeks to become the second Asian golfer to win a Major tournament.
“That’s the goal of every golfer. The Masters is a very good and old tournament that I dream of winning but you’ll never know. I just hope I will give myself the best try. I feel great taking a long break and I’m confident going into the tournament,” said Thongchai.
“I’ve been working on all type of shots equally but maybe a little more on the short game. Last year the errors were my short game but I didn’t really blame myself for that. The course is just tough by itself so you need to be extra prepared and be on top form around the green not to lose strokes from errors.”
Current Order of Merit leader Anirban Lahiri of India, who makes his debut at The Masters this week, has been paired alongside Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain and Lee Westwood of England.
