Thongchai rises to 34th in world ranking

July 8: Thai veteran star Thongchai Jaidee has climbed to a career high 34th position in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) following a tied-second finish at the Alstom Open de France on the European Tour last weekend.
Thongchai, who is highly regarded as one of the greatest golfers in Asia thanks to an unprecedented three Order of Merit crowns and 13 career victories, also won the Nordea Masters in Sweden last month, marking his second win on the European soil following his Wales Open victory in 2012.
The EurAsia Cup Team Asia captain is currently the second highest placed Asian golfer in the world, after Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama who is ranked 15th.
Asian Tour Honorary Member K.J. Choi of Korea, current Order of Merit leader Anirban Lahiri of India and reigning Order of Merit winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand, who finished tied-43rd in France, are currently ranked 68th, 85th and 101st respectively.
Australia’s Scott Hend, who claimed three victories on the Asian Tour last season, sits at 145th place while Siddikur Rahman, the first Bangladeshi to play and win on the region’s premier Tour, is ranked 159th.
Thai duo Prayad Marksaeng (165th) and Thaworn Wiratchant (192nd), India’s Shiv Kapur (167th), China’s Liang Wen-chong (182nd) and Australian Wade Ormsby (200th) are amongst the other Asian Tour members in the world’s top-200.
Thongchai, Kiradech , Choi and Lahiri will represent the Asian Tour and compete in  The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool next week.
They will be joined by Asian Tour Honorary Member Y.E. Yang of Korea, Japanese duo Masanori Kobayashi and Yoshinobu Tsukada, Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines, former Asian Tour member Wu Ashun of China, as well as EurAsia Cup stars Koumei Oda and Kim Hyung-sung in the prestigious event.
