May 7: Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee hopes to get off to a strong start in his third appearance at The Players Championship which starts on Thursday.
The three-time Asian Tour number one will be on a mission to make the weekend rounds in the tournament which is unofficially known as the fifth Major. He previously played in the event in 2009 and 2010 but missed the cut.
He will be among a star-studded field including the 2011 Players Championship winner K.J. Choi, who is also an Asian Tour honorary member, Noh Seung-yul, who won his first PGA Tour title last month, and Asia’s first major winner Y.E. Yang.
Thongchai, ranked 50th on the Official World Golf Ranking, will begin his campaign alongside Will MacKenzie of the United States and Greg Chalmers of Australia at the venerable TPC Sawgrass.
The Thai has enjoyed a superb season in 2014 where he has three top-10s and has yet to miss a single cut.
He also completed a personal milestone when he finished tied 37th at the Masters Tournament in April. By making the cut in the year’s first Major, Thongchai completed his ‘career grand slam’ of made cuts in all the Major championships.
Ends.
