20140612_US_Open_443June 13: Asian Tour star Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand opened his U.S. Open campaign with a three-over-par 73 to take a share of 68th place on Thursday.
The three-time Asian Tour number one mixed his card with two birdies against five bogeys to tie with Shiv Kapur, an Asian Tour winner, and EurAsia Cup teammate Kim Hyung-sung of Korea at Pinehurst. Martin Kaymer of Germany is leading on 65.
Noh Seung-yul of Korea, who holds the distinction of being the youngest Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, enjoyed a good start in the year's second Major when he shot a 70 to take a share of 16th place.
Asian Tour member Simon Griffiths, who qualified through the Sectional Qualifying, placed 50th following an opening 72.
Liang Wen-chong, the first Chinese to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit in 2007, and Asian Tour honorary member Ernie Els of South Africa posted matching 74s for tied 88th while Asian tour honorary member Y.E. Yang carded a disappointing 75.
