Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, September 21: Worldwide Holdings, title sponsor of this week’s Selangor Masters, has expressed its ambitions to make the Asian Tour tournament one of the landmark sporting events in the state of Selangor.
Chapchai Nirat of Thailand triumphed at the 2014 Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters which concluded on Sunday but the success of the event is only an early celebration to the title sponsor’s 25th year anniversary next year, says Haji Ami Nardin Haji Ishak, the Head of Corporate Communication Division for Worldwide Holdings.
Worldwide Holdings, one of the leading property company’s in Malaysia, has title sponsored the event since 2008 and its brand has been boosted tremendously across the world through the weekend live television coverage which reached over 180 countries and 625 million homes.
“We want to make this event one of the landmark events in Selangor. In terms of branding, it has been very successful and it works in line with our company’s 25th anniversary next year. This is just a prelude to our celebrations next year,” said Haji Ami.
“We are delighted that the event has given us a platform to promote Worldwide Holdings not only as a leading property company but also our other subsidiaries which we are involved in.”
Haji Ami also expressed his appreciation to the Selangor States government for supporting the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters which attracted a star-studded Asian Tour cast to the Seri Selangor Golf Club.
“The Selangor Masters has given us the opportunity to give back to the community by promoting the sport and grooming the local players to perform better. The event has also given him the opportunity to promote sports tourism in the Selangor state,” said Haji Ami.
“There are a lot of avenues where we can gain in this event. Hopefully we can elevate this tournament into a bigger event and at the same time create and spur more interest in the younger golfers.”
Haji Ami hopes to see another Malaysian after Ben Leong, who won the event in 2008 where he defeated Thai star Thongchai Jaidee, lift the prestigious trophy.
“By promoting this tournament we can generate more interest from our local professionals. This will enhance the golfers to compete more competitively with the international professionals,” he said.
“We hope that we can have more local professionals to finish inside the top-10 in the tournament or even emulate Ben Leong’s victory in 2008.”
The top two players on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, David Lipsky of the United States and India’s Anirban Lahiri, headlined the tournament along with no fewer than 35 other Asian Tour champions. PGA Tour winners Daniel Chopra and Arjun Atwal were also in the elite field this week.
