March 6: Asian Tour stars David Lipsky, Thongchai Jaidee and Anirban Lahiri endured tough opening rounds at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at the Trump National Doral on Thursday.
Lipsky, the reigning Order of Merit champion, battled to a two-over-par 74 for a share of 39th place in the US$9.25 million tournament, shooting two birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey on his card.
Thai star Thongchai and Lahiri of India had a day to forget following rounds of 80.
After going out in 37 from the back nine, three-time Asian Tour number one Thongchai ran up a quadruple bogey nine on his penultimate hole, the par five eighth hole for an inward 43 on the course which averaged 1.5 strokes above par.
Making his debut at the event, Lahiri, who won twice last month on the Asian Tour to rise to 35th in the world, also went out in 37 from the 10th tee before enduring a nightmarish inward nine with two double bogeys, four bogeys and one birdie.
He later tweeted: "My toughest test yet. Have to pick myself up for the next 3 days."
American J.B. Holmes lead the tournament by four shots after a sparkling 62.
