Kuala Lumpur, December 21: The Asian Tour announced today the first half of its 2015 Schedule, with three new tournaments in Thailand, Mauritius and Malaysia making debuts on the region’s premier Tour.
The US$2 million Thailand Classic at Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin, the €1 million (approximately US$1.2 million) AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Heritage Golf Club and US$750,000 Vascory Classic at Templer Park Country Club in Malaysia will be held in February, May and August respectively.
The US$1.5 million Hero Indian Open, which was not held in 2014, will make a welcome return during the third week of February where it will be the third leg of the new 2015 season following the US$3 million Maybank Malaysian Open and inaugural Thailand Classic.
The long-running SAIL Open in India in March will ensure golf fans in the sub-continent will enjoy top-class action within the space of a month while the US$750,000 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters returns for its fifth edition at its traditional slot in late April.
The popular Queen’s Cup in Thailand will be played in mid-June on the holiday isle of Samui while the prestigious Omega European Masters in Switzerland, the only co-sanctioned Asian Tour and European Tour tournament held on European soil, has been brought forward to the third week of July from its previous September date. Details of two events in the Philippines and the Chiangmai Golf Classic will be announced in due course.
The initial offering of 10 events for the first half of 2015 will subsequently be followed by the traditionally packed second half of the season.
Asian Tour Chairman Kyi Hla Han said: “The introduction of three new events on the Asian Tour in Thailand, Malaysia and Mauritius in 2015 shows the continued strength and appeal of the professional game at the highest level in Asia.
“Our first half of the season events will also see the Asian Tour returning to many of our key markets including India and Indonesia through our established tournaments. We are also looking forward to visiting Mauritius for the first time with the launch of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
“Through our strong partnership with The European Tour, we will co-sanction five events together with them in the first half of 2015 while we also look forward to working together for the first time with the Sunshine (Southern African) Tour in Mauritius as well as the Japan Golf Tour at the inaugural Vascory Classic in Malaysia.
“We anticipate the second half of our 2015 season to be as strong, if not better, than our previous years and we look forward to another exciting season ahead for the Asian Tour and our talented members.
“All our success would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and tournament promoters who share in our vision to promote professional golf in Asia.  We look forward to another great year ahead as we seek to take the game to new and greater heights.”
American David Lipsky won the 2014 Asian Tour Order of Merit.
