Jakarta, April 15: The region’s best players will lend their star power to the US$750,000 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters presented by Enjoy Jakarta Golf when it tees off next week.
No less than 25 Asian Tour champions which include heavyweights such as Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant, Philippines’ Angelo Que and India’s Arjun Atwal will grace the fairways of the Royale Jakarta Golf Club from April 23-26.
They are expected to make Indonesia’s premier golf tournament a hotly contested affair which will also feature the likes of former world number one Lee Westwood of England, Asia’s first Major winner, Y.E. Yang of Korea and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn in its star-studded line-up.
At 48, Thaworn is the most decorated golfer in the Asian Tour history with 18 Tour victories. The Thai veteran, who still regards himself as a ‘young boy’, is an exceptional athlete who is ever relentless in his pursuit for more glory.

“Golf is my life and I take each tournament I play in seriously. The CIMB Niaga Indonesia Masters is one of them and I’m looking forward to do well in Jakarta,” said Thaworn, ahead of his challenge at the Indonesian showpiece.
Having finished tied-22nd last year, the Thai veteran believes his affinity with the Royale Jakarta Golf Club would be advantageous for his title bid at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters.
“I like the course. I feel that the layout and conditions suit me, even though there are some long holes. The fairways are not wet after it rains either and it’s a fair golf course,” said Thaworn.
Meanwhile Que, who enjoyed his best career finish on the Order of Merit in 2014 when he finished in sixth place, will be eager to extend his rich vein of form
The father-of-two picked up his first domestic win of the year last month and is now seeking to end his five-year title drought on the Asian Tour.
Despite making the early exit last year, Que remains confident of a better showing this time around.
“I finished tied seventh and fifth in 2012 and 2013, but I missed the cut last year which again was down to the fact that we just welcomed a new baby.
“This year, I’m happy with my game and I’m looking forward to challenging for the title as this is a tournament which I’ve enjoyed some measure of success there,” said Que, who has posted two top-10s in the 2012 and 2013 editions.
Atwal revived his career with his eighth Asian Tour victory in Dubai last year following a four-year winless streak and looks poised to weave his magic again.
Based in the United States now, the former Asian Tour number one is the first Indian to win on the PGA TOUR in 2010 and will be looking forward to another triumphant return to the region which has brought him much success.
“I always like coming back to the Asian Tour and like I have always said, it’s the friendliest Tour in the world and I love it,” said the former Asian number one.
Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour of Indonesia, the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters Presented by Enjoy Jakarta Golf will feature 24 Indonesian golfers, 20 professionals from the PGA Tour of Indonesia and four of Indonesia’s top amateurs who will compete in the 150 player field over 72 holes of individual stroke play.
