March 4: Reigning Asian Tour number one Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Thongchai Jaidee and Scott Hend of Australia will be among an elite field at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship which starts on Thursday.
Kiradech and Hend both qualified for the year’s second World Golf Championships event by finishing first and second on the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit respectively while Thongchai earned a spot in the field through his Official World Golf Ranking.
World Number one Tiger Woods of the United States will defend his title this week.
Kiradech will be hoping to mount a strong challenge at the US$9 million event to boost his world rankings where he currently sits in 71st position.
The 24-year-old hopes to qualify for the Masters Tournament in April, but will need to get into the world’s top-50 in the week prior to the first Major of the year.
He will also use the experience of playing in his second WGC tournament in 2014 to his advantage when he represents Team Asia at the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM which is staged in Malaysia from March 27 to 29.
Another member of Team Asia, Kim Hyung-sung of Korea will also feature at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Thongchai, the captain for Team Asia, will keep a close eye on his members in preparations for the showdown against Team Europe at the end of March.
Ends.
