May 28: Asian Tour member Yoshinobu Tsukada earned a maiden appearance at the U.S. Open when he claimed the final ticket at the two-day U.S. Open Championship Sectional Qualifying in Japan on Monday.
Tsukada, who shot a four-under-par 66,  and former Tour member Hiroyuki Fujita seized the last two spots after defeating 2012 Asian Tour Rookie of the Year Masanori Kobayashi in a play-off. They tied in regulation play on four-under-par 138.
Hideki Matsuyama, Hwang Jung-gon and Yui Ueda were the top three finishers in the Qualifier. Thai sensation Arnond Vongvanij defeated two other players to settle for second alternate for the U.S. Open Championship.
In Europe, Rikard Karlberg of Sweden, a two-time Asian Tour winner, missed out on the final spot to the U.S. Open Championship when he lost in a play-off. He settled for first alternate.
