 Siddikur (Ban) – Second round 66 (-5), Total 135 (-7)
It was a great round. Lovely weather and I felt good. My ball striking was perfect and especially my putting all went in. Overall, it was really good.
This is a placing course which I like very much. I finished third here last year and I had good thoughts. This week, I’m hitting it good and I’m enjoying myself. I had a good week in Taiwan, missed the cut in Korea but I played well though. I’m in good shape.
I won long ago, the 2010 Brunei Open. After that a couple of seconds, thirds and fifths. After winning, I got good confidence and I don’t have any problem. I can follow up on my rhythm. That was the key to come further up in my career.
Same thing tomorrow, fairways and greens which is always my goal.
Golf is getting popular back home. It wasn’t that popular six or seven years ago, but now it’s getting popular. Nowadays, I get recognised everywhere when I’m back in Dhaka. I enjoy being recognised. It’s a proud feeling and it gives me energy.
Ernie is my idol. I’ve been waiting for a long time to play with him. Last few years, I’ve missed playing with him so hopefully this week.
Venetian Macau Open - Round OneErnie Els (Rsa) – Second round 65 (-6), Total 136 (-6)
Even yesterday, but six under today, that must have been nice.
Yes, thank you. The one little putt I missed at the last (for birdie) will sting a little bit. I was looking at the board and it would have been perfect if I could have been seven under to be in the last group. But it’s fine. As you say, I played really nice today. I actually made some good putts and hit the ball nicely.
How has it been so far in Macau?
I’ve having a good time. Been trying to catch up on sleep. I did have some dinner at the Venetian last night. They gave us a nice dinner at Morton’s. So if anybody wants to come to Venetian, they must go to Morton’s. It’s stunning.
What does it mean now being the international ambassador for the Asian Tour?
It’ll mean that I’ll be coming over her a bit more. I think it’s a wonderful honour that the Asian Tour gave me. I’m taking this seriously. I’ve been playing over here for 20 years and I’ve seen the growth of the Tour and it’s a wonderful opportunity.
How’s the form been?
Since June, my game hasn’t quite clicked the way I wanted to but since the Presidents Cup, I feel my game is coming around a little bit. Hopefully I can have a couple of good weeks here in Asia.
Thoughts about the golf course?
I think it’s one of the unique courses in the world. The views are stunning, it’s amazing. What they’ve done here, I’m not sure how old the course is, they’ve done an excellent job here. It’s a unique place. You look down on aeroplanes landing. When you have a sight like that, it’s always special.
Conditions were not easy was it?
The wind was still up a bit. But this evening, it died down and it was a pleasure being out there. I was hitting different clubs into the holes and seeing the course in a different way. It was fun. I think I’ve found my lines off the tees and the greens as well. Not too comfortable with the short putts, that’s the only thing. That’s why I missed the last one (for birdie).
When I got here on Wednesday evening, I would have taken where I am right now after two rounds. I’m one shot behind and I’m in the thick of it.
Got more sleep in?
I did sleep a lot coming here. You can’t shake jetlag in a couple of hours, it takes a couple of days. I’ve been here for two days and I feel more, what’s the word, my body is getting there in the time zone. My rhythm is good. I brought my trainer over and he’s been stretching and everything we can to get my body going. So it’s actually feeling good.
Do you know much about the leader Siddikur?
No, I must find out. I’m the ambassador of the Tour now and I should know these things. Hopefully we’ll see him over the weekend.
Elmer Salvador. Elmer Salvador.
Baek Seuk-hyun (Kor), Second round 65 (-6), Total 136 (-6)
I’m really happy with the score. It’s my best on this course. I got really lucky on so many holes. I chipped in on three holes and made some long putts, 20 feet. Today, my putting and chipping was very good. My second shot was a struggle sometimes but I made some good up and downs.
Every time, I’m getting nearer. I’m trying my best. I’m just going to enjoy my game and play my game. Every time I try to go for it, I never did it. This time, I just want to enjoy my game and play my own game.
I started working with my old golf coach since end of last year. Beginning of this year, my irons and swing have become much better than last year and I have more confidence to play. My putting is so good right now and I’m getting a lot of good results.
Conditions were still big winds today. It’s hard to read the winds. I just play a lot of low balls, just put on the fairways and greens. If I miss, I need to know where to miss it. It was good.
Elmer Salvador (Phi) – Second round 66 (-5), Total 136 (-6)
I drove the ball good today which is important on this golf course. I think I only missed three fairways. Had a fair share of good putts that went in, the one on two was probably the longest from 25 feet. This is a very difficult golf course and you can’t make big mistakes. My swing feels good this week, so we’ll see how it holds up.
This year, my driving has been very bad. I’m having problems with hitting it right, like a slice. I’ve been trying to work on a few things on the range and making sure that I hit it through the ball and it seems to be working so far.
