Venetian Macau Open to reach millions


Macau, October 4: Millions of people across Asia will be able to tune in to the 2013 Venetian Macau Open, scheduled for 17-20 October at the picturesque Macau Golf and Country Club. One of the most iconic annual sports events in the city, the 2013 entry list include four-time major winner Ernie Els of South Africa and defending champion, India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar. In 2012, over 50 tour champions gathered in Macau to battle for this coveted title and fans across the region can follow their personal favourites this year live on a variety of broadcast partners.

With a total prize purse of US$800,000, an increase of 6.7% compared to last year, fans from around the world will be able to catch all the action of the 2013 Venetian Macau Open on the Asian Tour’s global media platforms, which reaches approximately 600 million homes. The main national golf TV channels across Asia will continue to broadcast the four days of the tournament to ensure not a single beat of the event will be missed.

For those in China, there is the option of enjoying the Venetian Macau Open experience on TV through live coverage on China Golf Channel or for the first time online via LETV, a portal that boasts of 25 million visitors daily and streams over 120 million videos per day. Furthermore, tournament highlights will also be broadcast on The Travel Channel, which is available in over 150 million homes covering most of the major cities in the country.

Jointly organised by Macau Sport Development Board of Macau SAR Government (MSDB) and Golf Association of Macau, the tournament is sanctioned by the latter and the Asian Tour, and promoted by IMG. Following a successful foray into the world of golf last year, The Venetian® Macao recently announced it will return as title sponsor of the event for a second successive year.
